Challenge

The company manages multiple apartment buildings with Sinapsi and Siemens smart-meter infrastructure. Each building has its own management environment for accessing devices and readings.

Every month, staff had to access each building environment, export meter data to Excel, then transfer or import it into Horizon for invoice preparation. The recurring process had to be repeated across buildings for each monthly billing cycle.

Solution

digibit implemented API-based integrations with Sinapsi, Siemens and Horizon. For each monthly billing cycle, the system retrieves the relevant meter readings and sends them to Horizon after validation.

The solution does more than transfer data: it checks that each physical meter is linked to the corresponding business and accounting records.

How it works

Mapping and validation

Before import, the system checks the full relationship chain: apartment or property address → active property-management agreement → associated equipment → equipment instance → corresponding meter and reading.

Implementing these checks surfaced existing configuration and data inconsistencies in the accounting system. This does not mean the previous data was generally incorrect.

Mapping checks in each monthly cycle

The system checks these links again each month, helping catch changes to records or settings that were not previously checked in every cycle.

Retries and exceptions

If a physical device or connection is temporarily unavailable, the system retries the reading automatically after a short interval. If the reading still cannot be retrieved, or the data cannot be imported into Horizon successfully, the unresolved item is included in an exception report for human review.

Results

By the first day of the month, readings needed for invoice preparation are already available in Horizon when processing succeeds.

  • 16 buildings are currently connected, with 3,440 meters processed.
  • Meter data is transferred to Horizon automatically each month.
  • Mappings and data consistency are checked again in every cycle.
  • Temporary reading failures trigger an automatic retry; unresolved items are flagged for review.
  • Successfully automated readings no longer require manual Excel export and import in the normal monthly workflow.
